Metro Vancouver has more than 2.3 million residents and is the most populous area in Western Canada, and the third most populous metropolitan area in Canada. Port Metro Vancouver is the busiest and largest port in Canada, and the most diversified port in North America. Metro Vancouver is well known as a metropolitan area surrounded by nature. Tourism is its second-largest industry, and its first is forestry. It has one of the largest film production centres in North America and is referred to as Hollywood North.
Metro Vancouver is a political body and corporate entity operating under provincial legislation as a regional district and greater boards that deliver regional services, policy and political leadership on behalf of 24 local authorities. It comprises 22 municipalities, one electoral area, and one treaty First Nation.
